Privacy Policy
PDF Reader (package com.saedigital.pdf.reader) · Last updated: 9 October 2026
PDF Reader is a document reader and editor that works entirely on your device. We built it so that your documents stay private: we do not collect, store, sell or share your personal data or your files.
1. Information we do not collect
- We do not require an account, email address or phone number.
- We do not upload your documents, scans, signatures or extracted text to any server.
- We do not include any advertising SDK, and we do not add analytics or tracking SDKs of our own.
2. Data that stays on your device
- Documents you open or create (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, images) are read and written only in your device storage. Files you create are saved to Documents/PDF Reader and Pictures/PDF Reader.
- Reading history, favorites and bookmarks are stored in a private database inside the app. You can clear history at any time; uninstalling the app removes it.
- Signatures you draw are saved as images inside the app's private storage so you can reuse them. You can delete them from the signature picker.
- Settings (theme, language, reading preferences) are stored locally.
3. Permissions and why we ask
- All files access / storage (
MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, or READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on older Android): used only to find and list the documents on your device, and to rename, delete or save files when you ask. It is optional — you can still open single files through the system file picker.
- Notifications (Android 13+): only if you turn on “New document alerts”. Off by default.
- Camera: the app itself does not request camera permission. Document scanning uses Google's on-device document scanner, which handles the camera inside Google Play services.
4. Google Play services features
Some features use Google components that run on your device:
- Document scanner and text recognition (OCR) by Google ML Kit. Your images and the recognised text are processed on the device and are never sent to us or to Google. To keep these features working, ML Kit sends limited diagnostic information to Google: device and app information (such as device model and app version), a per-installation identifier that is not meant to identify you, performance metrics and error codes. Google encrypts this data in transit and does not share it with third parties. See the ML Kit data disclosure and the Google Privacy Policy.
- In-app review by Google Play, which may ask you to rate the app. Any review is handled by Google Play.
- Read aloud uses the text-to-speech engine installed on your device.
5. Sharing
Files are shared with other apps only when you tap Share, Open with or Print, and only with the app or printer you choose.
6. Security
Password protection uses AES-256 PDF encryption. Passwords you type to open or protect a file are used for that operation only and are never stored.
7. Children
The app is a general productivity tool, is not directed at children, and collects no personal information from anyone.
